The Informer of the World Anti -Doping Agency (WADA) Julia Stepanova took seventh place in the final race of 800 meters at the stage of the winter world round of the International Association of athletics federations (IAAF) in the premises that take place in Boston.
The athlete, which protrudes under the neutral flag, showed the result of 2 minutes 5.14 seconds. The victory was won by the American Charlene Lipsi, who was ahead of Stepanov by 3.13 seconds. The second place was taken by Ethiopian to the Habits of AEMU, the third - British Linsi Sharp. Eight athletes participated in the race, but one did not finish. For Stepanova, this start was the first this season.
“Here, in the States, I feel safe because I know that I am physically very far from Russia,” TASS quotes Stepanov. “But when I lived in Germany, it was definitely worse because I was closer.”
Answering the question whether she would ever speak under the Russian flag again, Stepanova said: “If you asked me this question a year ago, I would answer“ yes ”, I wanted to compete for Russia again. But at the moment I changed my mind - they did not want me to change. I would change my attitude in Russia and they will look at me as the one who tried to help athletes, but, unfortunately, this is not so.
In December 2014, a Russian athlete, and subsequently the WADA informant Stepanova and her husband became the main actors of the German television company ARD, whose name can be translated as a “secret business” doping.
It stated that Russian athletes systematically took prohibited drugs at the direction of their coaches. The investigation conducted in connection with this WADA commission ended with the disqualification of the All-Russian Athletics Federation and the subsequent lack of Russian athletes to participate in the 2016 games.
