There are several traditions of its performance, the most common - with a happy final duet of Kalaf and a pacified Turandot, written by Franco Alfano based on the author’s drafts. But the Gelikonov team chose another option - to stop where Puccini stopped, that is, after the death of Liu, a slave in love with Kalaf. And, I must admit, there is no incompetence in the story told by Bertman.

Turandot is the most large-scale production of Helicon, which became possible thanks to, firstly, the new hall and the new pit in which the Puccchinievsky Orchestra fit, and secondly, the solid grant of the Ministry of Culture (the amount of 12.69 million rubles is on his site). The stormy underground of the tiny theater in the House of the Medic must be forgotten. The project goes under the majestic vulture “Eurasian Opera” and looks appropriate.

The Canadian designer of Chinese origin Kamelia Kuu mixed a dosed amount of exotic from the Middle Kingdom with new technologies and a huge ominous moon from the Trierov Melancholy. The idea is clear, but in general, with round objects on stage, some overkill.

The most important component of this project is his musical director, People's Artist of the USSR Vladimir Fedoseev, who finally debuted in Russia in the year of his 85th anniversary as an opera conductor (the audience of Zurich, Vienna, Florence, Paris and Milan has long known him). Not without kiks, but the orchestra played fascinatingly and even with charm, choir and ensembles on its background sounded liquidly.

Soloists for this super -oper of the Selzhelian votes were found in their troupe, the theater proudly reports, and not once, several compositions have been trained. The press showed the one where Kalaf sings the unknown Vitaly Serebryakov; This is his third opera party in his career. Sings loudly, but not always confident. It was terrible for him, but the final “SI” in the tenor hit “Nessun Dorma” , after which the hall collapses with a thunder of applause, was taken convincingly. As for the female parties, the title heroine, due to her bifurcation (Elena Mikhailenko sang Broneborn, demonstrated Ksenia Lisanskaya's waist and long legs) was not the main one paradoxically. She was overshadowed by Liu in the delicate performance of Julia Shcherbakova.

In general, such a lesson is such good fellows. Do not make mistakes like Kalaf.
