The Poland Foreign Ministry was attacked by hackers, who are associated with the Russian special services and attacks on the US OSCE servers and the US Democratic Party , the Polish edition of Rzeczpospolita reports. According to him, the incident occurred back in December 2016, but is reported only now.
Several diplomatic employees received letters by e-mail, allegedly containing a statement by the Secretary General of NATO following a meeting of the Russian-NATO Council. The attachment to the message contained a virus, which when the document was opened was activated, allowing hackers to gain access to data stored on computers of diplomats.
The attack was not immediately found, but in the end it was possible to recapture it. “The attack was very serious,” Mariusz Burdy, a representative of Prevenity, told reporters, which is engaged in ensuring the safety of computer networks of the Polish state institutions.

According to him, the cyber abuse used the recently discovered error in the Adobe Flash Player program. "The case was complicated by the fact that the attack was carried out using the Foreign Ministry server of one of the Latin America states," the press service of the Polish ministry told reporters.
Both Prevenity and the Poland Foreign Ministry believe that an APT28 group is also behind the attack, also known as Sofacy and Fancy Bear. “At present, this is the most famous hacker group in the world,” writes the Polish edition, recalling that earlier the same group was accused of attacks on Germany’s parliament and the French television channel, as well as the World Anti -Doping Agency (WADA), the OSCE and government institutions of Norway.
However, the activities of APT28 in the United States are most famous. There, the group is accused of theft of electronic letters of representatives of the Democratic Party, which were published shortly before the presidential election, which, according to the American special services, contributed to the victory of the Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Who are Fancy Bear
The hacker group Fancy Bear (also known as Sofacy, Sednit, Apt28, Pawn Storm and Strontium) has been operating since 2004. Hackers are known for attacks on sites of various foreign state structures, as well as Russian opposition parties and journalists.
The victims of hundreds of attacks were the German parliament, the French television network TV5MONDE, WADA, members of Parnassus, LDPR, Chechen Organizations, Russian Political Dissants, journalists throughout Eastern Europe, foreign scientists, the leadership of Ukraine, the Pakistan embassy in Kyiv, the Ministry of Defense of several countries (Argentina, North Korea, Turkey, Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) and Ukraine) The embassies of at least 16 states (Algeria, Brazil, Colombia, Djibuti, India, Iraq, DPRK, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Myanmar, South Africa, Turkmenistan, the UAE, Uzbekistan and Zambia).
One of the latest achievements of the group was the hacking of the application that the Ukrainian military used for more accurate guidance of artillery. In October 2016, it became known that the group tried to hack hackers from the group "Anonymous International" (or "Shali-Boltai"), known for their anti-Cremile position.
The hacked Fancy Bear medical records of athletes from Western countries showed that many received therapeutic permits to use prohibited drugs.
In early October 2016, Washington officially accused the Russian Federation of breaking the servers of the US Democratic Party.
In the Kremlin, involvement in hacker attacks in the United States was repeatedly rejected. At a large press conference on December 23, 2016, answering a question about hacker attacks, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that no one knew who arranged a cyber attack on the United States. He noticed that this is not important. According to the President of Russia, the lost party (the candidate from the Democrats Hillary Clinton, who was supported by Barack Obama) is simply looking for excuses.
