1982 Hama massacre

35 years ago, on February 2, 1982, the Syrian army and Alawite militias bombed and then stormed the city of Hama to put down a Muslim Brotherhood-led Sunni uprising. About 40 thousand inhabitants of Hama were killed, mostly civilians (there were no more than two thousand armed among them). The massacre in Hama was directly led by Rifat al-Assad, brother of Syrian President Hafez al-Assad.
