The ECHR awarded Navalny compensation for detentions in 2012 and 2014

The European Court of Human Rights considered Alexei Navalny's complaint against detentions and administrative arrests in 2012 and 2014 and made a decision , according to which the Russian government must pay the opposition leader more than 60 thousand euros.

Navalny's complaint stated:

• detention on March 5, 2012 after a rally dedicated to the results of the presidential elections (Navalny was later fined a thousand rubles);
• two detentions on May 8, 2012 - during nighttime mass festivities and later in the day (following each of the detentions, Navalny was also fined a thousand rubles);
• detention on May 9, 2012 during a raid on an activist camp on Barrikadnaya (after that, Navalny was arrested for 15 days );
• detention on October 27, 2012 during a walk in the center of Moscow against repression and torture (fined 30,000 rubles);
• two detentions on February 24, 2014 - near the Zamoskvoretsky court during the announcement of the verdict in the Bolotnaya case and in the evening of the same day on Tverskaya Street during a protest gathering (the next day Navalny was arrested for seven days , and on March 7 he was fined 10 thousand rubles ).

The court considered that in all seven episodes Article 11 of the European Convention, which guarantees the right to freedom of assembly, Article 5, which guarantees the right to liberty and security of person, and Article 6, which guarantees the right to a fair trial, was violated

In October 2016, it became known that the ECtHR communicated the complaints of eleven people who were detained on February 24, 2014 on Tverskaya and one detained on the same day in St. Petersburg.
