Former State Duma deputy Dmitry Gudkov intends to participate in the elections of the Moscow Mayor in 2018 as a single candidate from the democratic opposition. The information was confirmed by the head of the Gudkov headquarters in the 2016 State Duma elections to Maxim Katz. This was reported by the newspaper "Vedomosti".
The chairman of Yabloko Emilia Slabunova admitted that the party is ready to consider the possibility of supporting Gudkov, although Sergey Mitrokhin, who ran in past elections, believes that the Moscow conference will advocate his candidacy. Gudkov "has no experience in Moscow to claim this post," Mitrokhin believes.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky stated that the Open Russia movement would be highly likely to support Gudkov. It was not possible to contact the leader of Parnas Mikhail Kasyanov. The press secretary of Alexei Navalny Kira Yarmysh refused to comment.
Gudkov’s campaign will consist of two stages: municipal elections in the fall of this year, in which 200-300 people are planned to be held to deputies, who will later give signatures for him and help to overcome the municipal filter. And directly the mayor’s elections, Katz said. According to him, the leadership of the Yabloko party, from which Gudkov was nominated to the State Duma in 2016 , supported his proposal to jointly conduct a municipal campaign.
Gudkov himself said that in the near future he would hold a briefing on the topic of nomination.
The Moscow Mayor will be held in September 2018.
