Sampsonievsky Cathedral in St. Petersburg was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church

Sampsoniev Cathedral in St. Petersburg is officially transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church. It is reported by Interfax .

The transfer ceremony began with the Liturgy, after which the director of the state museum-monument "Isaakievsky Cathedral" Nikolai Burov handed the keys to the building Archimandrite Seraphim.

Sampsonievsky Cathedral was laid down by Peter I in 1709 in gratitude for heavenly patronage in the Battle of Poltava.

Sampsonievsky Cathedral, along with Smolny and Isaacievsky, as well as the Church of the Savior-on-blood, was part of the State Museum-Monetor "Isaac's Cathedral". In early January, Governor Sergei Poltavchenko announced that in the near future the Church would also be transferred to the Isaacievsky Cathedral.

Plans for the transfer of the St. Isaac's Cathedral called the protest of residents of St. Petersburg. From January 28, from two to five thousand people took part in the largest of them. A lawsuit was filed in the Vasileostrovsky District Court on the legality of the transfer of the cathedral, but the court refused to consider it.
