The Ministry of Internal Affairs revoked the permission of the Sochi rabbi to reside in Russia

The Migration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has revoked the temporary residence permit in Russia for Rabbi of Sochi Arie Edelkopf, and in connection with this he may be deported from the country. According to RBC, TASS reports this with reference to a notification from the migration department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Krasnodar Territory.

The decision to cancel the residence permit was made on December 29, 2016. Together with the rabbi, his minor children must leave the country; their documents are also cancelled.

Earlier, Edelkopf wrote on Facebook that Russian authorities were threatening him with deportation. “Okay, friends. They want to deport me and my family from Russia. They call the provisions of subparagraph 1 of paragraph 1 of Article 7 of 115-FZ, that is, by our actions we create a threat to the security of the Russian Federation. This is a difficult test from above. But I trust the Almighty and am sure that, with God’s help, everything will be fine,” the rabbi said.

The legislative provision that Edelkopf writes about states that foreigners will have their temporary residence permit revoked if they “advocate a violent change in the foundations of the constitutional system of the Russian Federation, or otherwise pose a threat to the security of the Russian Federation or citizens of the Russian Federation.”
