FSB: there will be no border controls on the border with Belarus

The border zone on the border with Belarus is created to combat illegal transit migration, smuggling and drug trafficking and does not provide for border control of people, vehicles and cargo. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the FSB Public Relations Center.

“The documents do not contradict the norms of international treaties between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus and do not impose restrictions on the freedom of crossing the state border of the Russian Federation by citizens of both states,” added . the FSB COS

On February 1, the head of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, ordered the establishment of the boundaries of the border zone on the border with Belarus in the Bryansk, Smolensk and Pskov regions. The explanatory note to the order, which will come into force on February 7, explains this decision by creating the necessary conditions for protecting the Russian-Belarusian border and preventing crime.

Because of this order, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko accused Russia of violating interstate agreements, saying that Bornikov “with one stroke of the pen put an end to all agreements.” Lukashenko also said that his country has not violated a single interstate agreement with Russia, and “Russia is kicking them in the tail and mane.”
