A local resident who beat a Lenin monument with a stick was convicted in Chuvashia

A court in the city of Kanash in Chuvashia found a local resident who beat a Lenin monument with a stick guilty of vandalism (Part 1 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced him to 250 hours of compulsory labor. According to the Chuvash prosecutor's office, the magistrate of court district No. 2 in Kanash made such a decision on January 18, but now the decision has entered into legal force.

The crime occurred on Lenin Square in Kanash on a July night in 2016. A drunk local resident, “armed with a wooden stick,” hit her at the monument to Vladimir Lenin several times.

“As a result, the sculpture suffered damage in the form of fragments of the front and frontal parts. The amount of damage caused to the administration of the city of Kanash exceeded 30 thousand rubles,” notes the prosecutor’s office.

The man admitted his guilt, the case was considered in a special manner.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that two young people beat the monument with a stick and were detained without delay. These are local residents aged 18 and 19, who, as noted, “having sobered up, could not explain their action.” There was no information about the sentence for the second young man.
