The Astrakhan court issued the first verdict in Russia under the “Yarovaya Law”

On February 6, the Kirovsky District Court of Astrakhan found local resident Ulukbek Gafurov guilty of failing to report a crime (Article 205.6 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to a fine of 70,000 rubles, Interfax reports. This is the first sentence in Russia under the article on non-information, which is part of the so-called Yarovaya package.

The representative of the regional prosecutor's office, Yulia Svinina, said that the case was initiated based on the materials of the department of the FSB of the Astrakhan region. “It has been established that he, having reliable information that his friend was trained in a militant camp and later fought on the side of terrorists, did not report this to law enforcement agencies,” Svitina said.

The department of the FSB of the Astrakhan region told the agency that Gafurov did not inform the law enforcement agencies about his acquaintance, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, Ravshan Akbarov. In December 2016, the North Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don found him guilty under Art. 205.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and Art. 208 part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in an armed formation not provided for by federal law). He was sentenced to 8 years in prison in a strict regime colony.
