The Investigative Committee on St. Petersburg opened a criminal case against employees of the Hospital No. 1 branch of the nursing-78 FSIN of Russia because of the death of the cancer patient, writes RAPSI with reference to the lawyer Vitaly Cherkasov.
From the materials of the case it follows that in May the St. Petersburg City Court released the convicted person, recognizing that with her diseases she could not serve his sentence in imprisonment. Two months later, the woman died. According to investigators, prison doctors revealed signs of cancer from a prisoner in May 2015, but diagnostics were carried out only five months later.
But even after the final confirmation of the disease and the examination of the oncologist, who recommended treatment in a specialized department, the convicted person was never sent for treatment. She received symptomatic therapy that did not help in the fight against the disease.
According to Cherkasov, in the near future a forensic medical examination will be carried out in order to establish a specific guilty. He added that, as he remembers, a criminal case against prison doctors was first instituted in St. Petersburg.
