Tsvetan Todorov died

On February 7, a philosopher, historian, literary critic, sociologist and essayist Tsvetan Todorov died in Paris at the age of 77.

Tsvetan Todorov was born in 1939 in Sofia, studied philology at the University of Sofia, after which he emigrated from Bulgaria in 1963 and continued his education in the Sorbonne.

Since 1968, he led the research group at the National Center for Scientific Research on France, in 1970 he became one of the founders of Poétique and was its editor until the end of the 1970s, for many years edited a series of books on the theory of literature “Collection Poétique” . He taught at several universities in the United States, including Colombian University, Harvard, Yel and Berkeley.

The author of the 21st book, including “Introduction to Fantastic Literature” (1970), “Poetics of Prose” (1971), “The conquest of America. The problem of the "stranger" "(1982)," it and strangers "(1991). Todorov was also engaged in the popularization of Russian formalism and work of Mikhail Bakhtin in the West, in the 1980s his works “Mikhail Bakhtin: Dialogical Principle” (1981) and “Theory of literature.
