The International Biathlon Union (IBU) will require Russia to abandon the 2021 World Cup in Tyumen. According to the IBU website, such a decision was made at the extraordinary congress of the organization in the Austrian village of Fibergobrunn.

Congress voted against inclusion on the agenda of the issue of depriving Russia of the right to hold the championship. Instead, it was decided that the IBU Executive Committee would send a proposal to be sent to the Union of Biathlonists of Russia until February 24 with a voluntary refusal to hold the competition.

If such a refusal does not, the executive committee will deprive Russia of the championship with its own decision.

The new venue for the competition will be determined at the IBU Congress next year.

The decision not to hold the championship in Russia was made in connection with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee and the World Anti -Doping Agency (WADA) amid a doping scandal.

On the website of the Union of Biathlonists of Russia, in connection with the decision of the IBU, it is stated : "SBR reserves the right, together with the leadership of the Tyumen region and the organizing committee of the World Cup 2021 to figure out the current situation and make a balanced decision regarding further actions."

Meanwhile, the Tyumen governor Vladimir Yakushev said in an interview with the Tyumen Arena that he would defend the right of the regional center to hold the World Cup.
