A court in Tatarstan overturned a fine for participating in a rally in honor of the annexation of Crimea

On February 8, the Supreme Court of Tatarstan overturned the decision of the Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan, which at the end of 2015 imposed a fine of 10,000 rubles on the head of the Russian Culture Society, Mikhail Shcheglov, under Part 5 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (violation by a participant in a public event of the established procedure for holding a meeting, rally, demonstration, processions or pickets). This is reported by the portal “Idel. Realities".

The police saw an administrative offense in the fact that Shcheglov was behind the fence of the “sanctioned event dedicated to the annexation of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation”, which took place in Kazan on March 18, 2015.

Shcheglov said that he came to that rally with representatives of the NOD, but they were not allowed to enter the fence, because the activists had a DPR flag and a poster “Supported Crimea - support Donbass” with them. As a result, Shcheglov and other activists remained behind the fence and organized a fundraiser to help the Donbass. The administrative case was initiated six months after the action. At today's meeting, Shcheglov said: "Please do not make me a second Navalny and a laughing stock of the courts."
