The founders of Mossack Fonseca were detained in Panama

In Panama, the founders of the law firm Mossack Fonseca Jurgen Massak and Ramon Fonseca were detained. According to Süddeutsche Zeitung, searches were held in the organization’s office.

According to investigators, entrepreneurs are involved in the corruption scandal in Brazil, associated with the Petrobras oil company. The investigation of this case began in 2014. The investigation believes that the top managers of the company, which, from 2003 to 2010, headed the former President of Brazil Dilm Russuff, concluded contracts with contractors, deliberately overestimated their amounts, and also captivated politicians.

At the end of January, it became known that the Panama prosecutor’s office suspended the investigation in the Panama Dossier case. According to the Prosecutor General of the country, the reason for the suspension of the investigation was a complaint filed in the Panama Constitutional Court of the actions of investigators. According to the author of the complaint, participants in the investigation violate the constitution. The Panama Prosecutor General did not clarify exactly who filed a complaint.

The first data from the Panama Archive were published on April 3, 2016. The investigation was about numerous offshore companies used by states, politicians, celebrities, well -known athletes. The investigation was based on 2.6 terabyte data, including 11.5 million documents stolen from servers of one of the leading offshore registrars in the world - the Panama Law Firm Mossack Fonseca.

Among other things, the Panama documents spoke about the financial fraud of the approximate of Vladimir Putin for a total of at least $ 2 billion. According to ICIJ, transactions were attended by Sandalwood Continental, International Media Overseas, Sonnette Overseas and Sunbarn. All of them are registered in offshores and are associated with the Bank "Russia", which the American authorities called the "personal bank for high -ranking Russian officials", as well as with Putin's close friends.

On April 14, during a direct line, Putin confirmed the reliability of information from the Panama Archive. However, the head of state added, nowhere in these documents it is said that he personally is related to funds in offshore.
