The State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill prohibiting those convicted of extremism from being founders of media outlets. The document was published in the State Duma database.
The government submitted the bill to the lower house of parliament for consideration. If the document is adopted, the founders of the media will not be able to be people with outstanding convictions for crimes “against the foundations of the constitutional order and the security of the state or for committing serious or especially serious crimes” related to violation of the legislation on the media, as well as the legislation on countering extremism
Currently, minors, foreigners, prisoners and those recognized as incompetent, as well as prohibited associations, enterprises and organizations cannot establish media outlets.
