The Gagarinsky District Court of Sevastopol on February 9 upheld the fine issued by the traffic police to Ukrainian activist Sergei Kornienko. This is reported by the publication "Crimea. Realities".
Kornienko believes that there were signs of discrimination based on nationality in the actions of the traffic police officers. He told the publication that he was fined in September 2016 for allegedly not showing his driver's license fast enough. At the same time, the employees who stopped him, according to him, “speak insultingly” about his beliefs and unwillingness to change the Ukrainian number of the car to the Russian one. Officers threatened Zhenya Kornienko with handcuffs and taking her to the police station because she does not carry a Russian passport with her.
According to generally accepted Russian standards, up to two hours are given for searching and presenting a certificate in Russia. Subsequently, at the impound lot, together with the police, we found my driver's license in the back seat. I was not informed about the consideration of the punishment according to the protocol, I was not present during the consideration of the case, without my participation I was fined 5 thousand rubles. The decision was sent to me a month later
, - the publication quotes the words of the activist.
The publication recalls that in 2016, the Russian traffic police department in Crimea warned that from April 1, they would give 10 days to re-register cars and replace Ukrainian numbers with Russian ones. Those who did not make it were threatened with a fine.
