The government is planning to ban banks from transferring Russians' money to casinos

The government commission has approved a bill that will prohibit banks from transferring money to casinos and bookmakers that do not operate under Russian law. RBC journalists got acquainted with the draft law.

The list of organizations that are prohibited from transferring money will be maintained by the Tax Service. When the law comes into force, Russians will not be able to transfer money to bookmakers registered outside of Russia. These are the majority of large sites: most often they are registered offshore.

The draft law was developed by the Ministry of Economy on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he gave back in 2015.

• A similar ban was introduced in Norway in 2010. It doesn't work .
• In Russia since 2006 it is forbidden to gamble on the Internet. Since 2014, Roskomnadzor has begun blocking bookmaker and casino sites — 20,000 sites have already been blocked.
