The final battle of patriotism with knowledge. Why will the European University die?

It is not so important what exactly the European University in St. Petersburg will die-the best Russian University in the field of history, political sciences and anthropology. Options: from non-compliance with fire safety, the absence of a gym, the harmfulness of plastic windows for the appearance of Gagarinskaya Street SPb or from an insufficient number of “political scientists-practitioners”. The last question was key in the dispute between the European University (EU) with the Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science - Rosobrnadzor.

Educational supervision suspended the EU license. Without it, it is impossible to engage in educational activities in Russia. Details why this decision should be abolished by the Rosobrnadiers themselves, I wrote to Republic in December 2016. The university appealed this decision in the Moscow Arbitration Court. The security measure in the university’s claim against officials was the resumption of the license (the court suspended the decision of officials on the suspension of the EU license). The tenth of February, the arbitration court completely rejected this lawsuit. In theory, now the decision of Rosobra on the suspension of the license should come into force again.

Now the work of the university, educational activity is possible as long as the court considers his claim to educational overseers. It would be nice to have a Kafkian or at least an Indian judicial system, where the case can obey for a long time. But tightening time is not one of the main vices of our court. And when the authorities need, the court generally works very quickly . The court will end - and there is no longer the opportunity to teach. So, the dance should stop when the last chord was silent. And it doesn’t matter that, according to the monitoring of the Ministry of Education and Science itself, EU is one of the best universities in the country (evidence - here , here and here ). Only the discrepancy between several of the dozens of formal requirements matters.
