1922 Adoption of the Constitution of Latvia

95 years ago, on February 15, 1922, the Constituent Assembly of Latvia adopted the country's Constitution, which was in force until the Soviet annexation in 1940. It largely repeated the Weimar constitution of Germany. After the coup by Karlis Ulmanis in 1934, the articles of the Constitution guaranteeing democratic freedoms were suspended. The Constitution as amended in 1922 is again in force in independent Latvia from July 6, 1993.
