State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin called any talk about the alienation of Crimea an encroachment on the territorial integrity of Russia. This is how he commented on the words of US Presidential Press Secretary Sean Spicer about the peninsula, Interfax reports.
“Crimea is part of Russia. Any conversations that lead to the alienation of our territory ... this is an encroachment on our integrity, on our territory, ”he said.
“Some press secretary said something. Listen, someone else will say there, ”he added (quoted by TASS). According to the speaker of the State Duma, any talk about the territorial belonging of the Crimea is inappropriate.
On February 14, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that US President Donald Trump expects Moscow to return Crimea, as well as reduce violence in Ukraine. “President Trump has made it clear that he expects the Russian government to de-escalate violence in Ukraine and return Crimea,” the spokesman said.
During the presidential campaign, Trump said that, in his opinion, the people of Crimea “would rather be with Russia, and not where they were before,” and confirmed his intention to consider recognizing Crimea as part of Russia if he wins the election.
