Russian President Vladimir Putin will address the issue of appointing an acting governor of Karelia on Wednesday. "Today, the president will be dealing with Karelia, and work on regional issues will continue in connection with the fact that the head of the republic, Aleksandr Khudilainen, announced his intention to resign early," said presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

He called for not looking for "underhanded processes" in the series of governors' resignations, which he called a "rotational process." "Why is this [the resignations of governors] happening in a synchronized manner? I repeat once again: this is a rotational process, there is an electoral calendar, everyone adapts to this calendar at their own discretion," Peskov believes.

Peskov noted that all the governors who announced their resignation resigned on their own initiative. "All of them have been heading their regions for more than one year and more than one five-year period, all of them were and are in constant contact with the president - the president has met with them many times, and has repeatedly spoken very positively about the results of their work," said the press secretary of the head of state.

On Wednesday, Karelia Governor Alexander Khudilainen announced his intention to resign. The day before, Ryazan Region Governor Oleg Kovalev announced his early resignation. On Monday, Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of Novgorod Region Governor Sergei Mitin. Last week, Buryatia Governor Vyacheslav Nagovitsyn and Perm Region Governor Viktor Basargin left their posts.
