A rally was held in Samara, the participants of which demanded the restoration of social benefits and called for the dismissal of the governor of the Samara region Nikolai Merkushkin.
According to the Pro City Samara publication, about a thousand people took part in the action. The Interfax news agency reports that the police estimated the number of protesters at 950 people.
Those who gathered at the rally demanded to return the monthly regional payment to veterans of war and labor and to cancel the limit on travel by transport on a social card.
The protesters promised to hold a new rally on March 18 if their demands are not met. The previous such action took place in Samara on February 4th. According to Interfax, then about 300 people gathered at the rally.
A young deputy of the Leninsky district council Andrei Sedogin compared the situation of pensioners in developed countries and Russia. If travel around the world is the first available, then Samara old people now have to leave their homes less - their pensions may simply not be enough to travel by public transport.
