Three years ago, on February 22, 2014, the Verkhovna Rada declared the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to have withdrawn himself from the exercise of constitutional powers. Before that, Yanukovych said that he was not going to resign and would not sign the decisions of the Rada, which he considers illegal. These decisions were the result of a compromise between the President and the opposition and included, inter alia, an immediate return to the 2004 Constitution, the formation of a government of national unity, the holding of early presidential elections no later than December 2014, the renunciation of the use of violence, and an investigation into the killings of Euromaidan activists.
