Meme: Shooting stars

An unremarkable 2009 track has been revived thanks to a new meme.

In 2009, the Australian electronic duo Bag Raiders released the single “Shooting Stars” and a video for it. Neither the song nor the video were particularly noteworthy until 2013, when the track was featured on Australia's Got Talent.

The video features the musicians traveling through space on old supercars, and the track is based on powerful synth sounds from the 80s - a popular reference to modern electronic music culture. And although the track was periodically used as background music in video memes, it was only in January 2017 that it became a meme in its own right.

And away we go. All these videos have two things in common: either the characters are fat, or they are flying or falling somewhere, or both.

Here, for example, is an improved version of the video about a fat man diving.

But this video was created back in the fall of 2016, but gained popularity only after people started talking about the meme on Reddit.

The popularity of the meme has spread to the Coub service, although the high complexity of execution prevents it from becoming truly widespread.
