The agency notes that Ilyichev will temporarily take the position before the appointment of a new permanent representative.
The previous Permanent Representative of Russia at the UN Vitaly Churkin died on February 20 in New York the day before his 65th anniversary. A preliminary cause of his death is a heart attack. Doctors who performed the opening of the body of the diplomat said that additional tests would be required to establish the cause of death.

Pyotr Ilyichev was born on March 11, 1966. In 2013, he received a diplomatic rank of extraordinary and plenipotentiary envoy of the 2nd grade.
