A court in Veliky Novgorod placed under arrest for two months a 38-year-old local resident accused of attacking doctors and police officers, told TASS. Anastasia Sadrieva, a representative of the regional department of the Investigative Committee,
“The Novgorod district court granted the investigation’s request to place in custody for two months a citizen accused of attacking hospital medical staff and assaulting law enforcement officers in Veliky Novgorod,” she said.
On the night of February 23, a 38-year-old man, hospitalized with a laceration on his face, attacked employees of a regional clinical hospital. As a result of the attack, a nurse and an orderly were hospitalized with a concussion and fractured facial bones. A security guard was also injured.
“After being taken to the police department to draw up an administrative report on violation of law and order, the attacker uttered obscene insults at the police officers and hit one of them,” the Investigative Committee reported.
Criminal cases against the man are being investigated under Part 1 of Article 318 and Article 319 of the Criminal Code (insult and use of violence against government officials), as well as Part 2 of Article 116 (beatings). The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered an investigation to be carried out as soon as possible.
