The Investigative Committee of Russia proposed increasing the term of the investigation on economic matters from two to four months. This is written by "Vedomosti".
In the framework of such cases, investigators have to work with a large array of documents. Also, a lot of time is spent on prosecutorial supervision and judicial control, the department notes. As a result, the preliminary investigation remains from one and a half months to 16 days.
The UK also proposes to allow the extension of the investigation in cases of serious and especially serious crimes for six months, and on ordinary cases - for three months instead of two.
In addition, the department considers it necessary to clarify the status of the investigator. Now the investigator “plays on the side of the prosecution”, while he is obliged to collect not only indictment, but also acquittal evidence. Including he must stop the persecution if there are significant doubts about the guilt of the suspect.
Entrepreneurs interviewed by the publication believe that this measure can lead to increased pressure on business. The investigation of economic affairs and so often lasts for years.
