Medvedev announced victory over unemployment

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev described the situation in the labor market as stable and announced the victory over unemployment in the country. He stated this at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi, Interfax reports.

“The situation in the labor market is stable. We coped with unemployment, ”the head of government said.

At the same time, Medvedev admitted that the next five years will be difficult for the Russian labor market. As he explained, this is not about unemployment, but about the shortage of qualified workers, which, according to the prime minister, is associated with the demographic failure of the 1990s.

The head of government also said that in terms of government actions for 2017–2025, the draft of which is still being discussed, it is supposed to lay a number of steps for the most efficient use of existing labor resources, as well as to attract highly qualified specialists abroad.

At the forum, Medvedev also announced that Russia managed to cope with crisis phenomena caused by problems in the world economy. “Today we can already firmly say - we have learned to cope with all these challenges. The fall of the gross domestic product has stopped, ”he said.

According to the Federal State Statistics Service, the total number of unemployed in Russia in January grew compared to December by 185 thousand people and amounted to 4288 thousand people (5.6% of the economically active population). In January, 897 thousand people were registered in state institutions of the employment service.
