
MTS in the spring of 2017 will begin to test the free Internet in several Russian regions, Vedomosti write .
In exchange for free traffic, subscribers will have to watch advertising. For viewing a 30-second video, the user will receive 100 megabytes.
According to Vasil Latsanich, Vice President of MTS for strategy and marketing, the pilot project will be launched in the Volgograd, Kirov, Kemerovo, Omsk and Tambov regions.
It is implemented along with Yandex, which will share with the operator advertising revenues, the official representative of MTS Dmitry Solodovnikov told Vedomosti.
Details of cooperation and the cost of advertising are not disclosed. Free Internet - part of the operator’s strategy for reversing the cost of services, adds RBC.
In May 2016, MTS President Andrei Dubovskov said that the mobile operators are “ashamed to take” money from subscribers, and “in the medium term”, communication services should become free.
