In the small Chinese city of Wenshui in the southwestern province of Guyzhou, a school named after General Jan Daji is located-one of the heroes of the Chinese civil war. The school was founded more than a hundred years ago by representatives of the Qing dynasty (of course, under a different name). Now students, dressed in blue and gray shape, with red stars on hats and pioneer ties on the neck, in addition to ordinary objects, study “red culture”, sing patriotic songs, and in between classes they train the elements of Kung fu. In 2008, the Yang Deji school became one of the two hundred schools of the Red Army with a patriotic bias.
“The spirit of the Red Army is a real value for children. He teaches them to be hardworking and lean from an early age, ”the AFP agency as the director of the school MU Chunyun quotes. Critics, of course, say that schools are created for "brainwashing." In such schools, stories are given an important place, first of all, the period of “one hundred years of humiliation”, when China was subjected to numerous attacks from the imperialists. Historians call the use of humiliating events to strengthen the national spirit "chosen injury."
The schools of the Red Army are part of the large project of the Chinese authorities on patriotic education, launched in the 1990s. This happened after the tragicevents on Tiananmen Square in Beijing in 1989. The main participants of mass protests suppressed by the authorities were students who advocated democratic freedoms. The protests were triggered by Dan Xiaopin’s market reforms and grew into a “crisis of three beliefs”: faith in socialism, faith in Marxism and confidence in the party. The Chinese authorities needed new scrapers. It was after the events on Tiananmen Dan Xiaopin that the party paid little attention to the ideological education of youth.
