Senior Vice President of Sberbank Sergei Ivanov, the son of the former head of the Russian Presidential Administration, has been nominated for the post of President of Alrosa, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev said, as quoted by Interfax.

Boomberg recently reported that Sergei Ivanov could become the president of Alrosa, citing two of his sources. This is the only candidate that is being discussed, the agency writes. This was confirmed to Vedomosti by a federal official.

Ivanov is 36 years old and works as a senior vice president of Sberbank. He took this post a year ago, previously he was the chairman of the board of the Sogaz insurance group.

According to Trutnev, Andrei Zharkov, who has headed the company since 2015, has already written a letter of resignation. “A decision will be made at the next council meeting,” he said (quoted by TASS). The Alrosa Supervisory Board will be chaired by Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

Before Alrosa, Zharkov worked at Gokhran, and since 2011 he headed the board of directors of one of Alrosa’s largest clients, the state-owned diamond manufacturer Kristall. A three-year contract was signed with him, which expires in April 2018, Bloomberg wrote and two federal officials confirmed to Vedomosti.

Interfax's sources in Alrosa noted that Zharkov has disagreements with officials, primarily with Finance Minister Anton Silualov. But recently there have been no significant changes indicating an aggravation of the situation, one of the interlocutors said.

During Zharkov’s tenure as president of Alrosa, the company’s revenue increased (according to preliminary data) by 18% – from $3.6 billion to $4.3 billion. In 2016, he held an SPO on the Moscow Exchange. The Federal Property Management Agency sold 10.9% of the company's shares for 52.2 billion rubles.
