The department noted that a criminal case was opened under Article 223.1 (production of explosives). The press service did not specify the name of the suspect.
The detention of a 19-year-old boy became known yesterday. It was then reported that the suspect in preparing the terrorist attack was a supporter of the Islamic State terrorist group who had recently converted to Islam.
He said that he intended to blow up the police car and take their weapons. During the search, security forces found components for an explosive device. An Interfax source said that the terrorist attack was planned for February 23 for “the greatest resonance and, as a result, recognition from foreign patrons.”
The TASS source clarified that the young man had been known to law enforcement agencies since the spring of 2016, when 60 Salafists were detained in an underground prayer house in Samara.
