The Enlightener literary award opened its tenth season and began accepting applications. This is reported on her website. The competition is open to popular science books on any topic that are in primary sale, regardless of the date of publication, as well as manuscripts being prepared for publication.
The founder of the award, Dmitry Zimin, representatives of the Zimin Foundation, publishing houses, librarians, scientific and public organizations, staff members of state museums, professors of universities with state accreditation, staff members of research institutes, corresponding members and full members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Russian Academy of Education, and an observer have the right to nominate books. the award board, as well as members of the jury.
Applications for the competition are accepted until May 15. The longlist for the award will be announced by June 30, the shortlist by October 4. The laureates will receive a reward of 700 thousand rubles, the finalists - one hundred thousand. Publishers that have published the works of the laureates will receive 130 thousand rubles each to promote the books.
The Enlightener Prize was established in 2008. Last year, more than 160 books were submitted to the competition, and the long list included 25 works. In the nomination “Natural and Exact Sciences” the award was received by Alexander Panchin, the author of “Summa of Biotechnology”, in the nomination “Humanities” - Sergei Kavtaradze with the book “Anatomy of Architecture. Seven books about logic, form and meaning." Andrey Zorin with the book “The Appearance of a Hero. From the history of Russian emotional culture of the late 18th – early 19th centuries” received the “Educator of Enlightenment” award. A special prize was awarded to Vladimir Reshetnikov, author of the book “Why the Sky is Dark.”
