Chitinka sued 45 thousand rubles for erroneous treatment during pregnancy, as a result of which she was partially paralyzed

Judge of the Central District Court of Chita Irina Filippova awarded local resident Tatyana Lesnikova 45 thousand rubles in a claim against the hospital, where, after erroneous treatment, she was partially paralyzed, the human rights organization “Zone of Law” told Mediazona.

The head of the Trans-Baikal Human Rights Center, Anastasia Kopteeva, noted that the plaintiff is not satisfied with the court’s decision and intends to appeal it to a higher authority. Lesnikova demanded 3 million rubles.

As specified, in December 2012, pregnant Lesnikova underwent an x-ray, which clearly showed a tumor. Doctors did not diagnose cancer; seven months later the tumor compressed the spinal cord and the girl was unable to walk.

For nine months, she was first treated for osteochondrosis, and then for multiple sclerosis. After paralysis, doctors conducted an MRI scan, which showed that the tumor had tripled in size.

“I feel like a guinea pig being experimented on. I came to the doctors for help on my legs, and left in a wheelchair with tubes in my stomach and a half-paralyzed body. I believe that we need to be held accountable for medical errors. By leaving such gross mistakes unpunished, we leave doctors the chance to make mistakes again on our loved ones, relatives and friends,” Lesnikova said in court.

Representatives of the defendant - the Regional Clinical Hospital and Clinical Medical Center - insisted in court that Lesnikova herself decided to continue the pregnancy, and this prevented her from being fully examined.

“At the same time, the experts indicated in their conclusion that there are no absolute contraindications for performing a computed tomography or MRI examination in pregnant women. In addition, the plaintiff noted in court that she was initially diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which has a positive effect on the development of this terrible disease,” explains the human rights organization.

During treatment, Lesnikova gave birth by Caesarean section. It was noted that the child was born alive and healthy.
