A fire at a shelter for homeless animals in northern Moscow killed 13 dogs. This was reported by the Interfax agency, citing a source in the emergency services.
According to the agency, the fire occurred at the “True Friends” shelter on Selskokhozyaystvennaya Street, where at that time there were about 40 dogs and 60 cats. The agency's source claims that no other animals were harmed.
Information about the fire was confirmed to the agency by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Moscow, saying that it had already been extinguished. A representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations clarified that the fire occurred in a one-story wooden building on an area of 20 square meters. According to preliminary data, there were no people inside.
Meanwhile, a TASS source in law enforcement agencies reports that a fire occurred in the Bim shelter on the territory of VDNKh: according to him, wooden enclosures were burning on an area of 40 square meters. The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
The Ostankino interdistrict prosecutor's office has begun checking reports of mass death of animals as a result of a fire at the "True Friends" shelter. The agency will check whether the shelter complied with fire safety rules, as well as land and veterinary legislation.
