
The Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel intends to visit Washington on March 14. It is expected that her meeting with US President Donald Trump will take place - for the first time after his election to the presidency.
Merkel plans to come to the United States are reported by news agencies with reference to American and German officials.
After his took office on January 20, Trump from European political leaders met only with the Prime Minister of Great Britain Teresa May. He had a telephone conversation with Merkel at the end of January. In his interviews and public performances, Trump spoke highly about the German Chancellor, but sharply criticized her decision to open the country's borders for Syrian refugees in the summer of 2015. Merkel, in turn, criticized the president of the United States for a decree on the ban on entry into the country for citizens of seven countries (later "frozen" by the court) and, commenting on the negative statements of Trump about the press, emphasized the importance of the freedom of the media.
