The Portuguese parliament supported the resolution on the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine by the genocide of the Ukrainian people. The document is published on the parliament website.

The Portuguese parliament condemns the Holodomor and recognizes it with a “genocide organized by the totalitarian communist regime of Stalin, which led to the death of about seven million Ukrainian citizens,” the document says. In addition, the resolution urges "to condemn all forms of totalitarianism and crimes against humanity, such as those that happened in the thirties in Ukraine."

The resolution was proposed by the Social Democratic Party of Portugal. As her representative of Telmo Correia stated, "the victims of communism became more people than the victims of Nazism." Representatives of the Socialist Party objected that Nazism and Communism could not be equated to each other, "because they are not comparable." As a result, most socialists abstained when voting. Deputies from the Portuguese Communist Party voted against the resolution.

To date, the Ukrainian Holodomor has been recognized by the parliaments of 19 countries, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Austria, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary.

On December 7, the Verkhovna Rada turned to the democratic countries of the world with a request to recognize the Holodomor with the genocide of the Ukrainian people. "A criminal communist totalitarian regime by forcibly seizure of food, blockade of villages and entire regions, prohibition of traveling outside the hunger of Ukraine, turning rural trade, repressions in relation to the disagreements intentionally created such life conditions designed for their physical destruction. Such a crime against humanity in accordance with the UN Convention on December 9, 1948 On the prevention of a crime of genocide and punishment for it, ”the appeal said. Today, Ukraine has again become a "victim of the aggression of the Stalin's followers from the Kremlin," the document was emphasized.

The Verkhovna Rada expressed deep gratitude to all those who "broke through the iron curtain of propaganda and lies built by the communist totalitarian regime," who on grains restored the truth about the Holodomor. Also, the Ukrainian parliament expressed gratitude to all states of the world that today support Ukraine in confrontation with the aggressor.

In Ukraine, the mass hunger of 1932-1933 was recognized as genocide in 2006. In May 2009, a criminal case was opened on the fact of this crime. A little later, the Security Service of Ukraine published a list of Soviet figures, who were called the culprits of the Holodomor. In January 2010, the Kiev Court of Appeal found seven people guilty of organizing the Ukrainians genocide . Among them, in particular, were the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the All -Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks, Joseph Stalin, chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers Vyacheslav Molotov, as well as a number of other high -ranking officials of that time. The case was closed, since all the perpetrators have already died.
