The Malaysian Foreign Ministry has declared North Korean Ambassador to Kuala Lumpur Kang Chol persona non grata. The North Korean diplomat has been ordered to leave the country within the next 48 hours.
The decision is related to the ambassador's statements about the assassination of Kim Jong Nam, the brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. On March 4, the diplomat said that the DPRK does not trust the Malaysian authorities who are investigating the incident. In response, the Malaysian government demanded an apology, but none came.
Officially, Malaysia has not filed charges against the DPRK for the murder of Kim Jong Nam, but there are suspicions that Pyongyang was involved in his death (English).
