Tamara Lyalenkova : On the air "Born after the USSR", a program about what traditions youth inherit from the past, and what awaits us in the future. You can listen to and see the discussion on the Radio Liberty website and on the Current Time TV channel.
Today we will try to design, however, verbally the image of a modern woman who is equal to young girls, and try to understand how much the role of a woman in society and the family has changed, if it has changed at all. We will talk more about this in the second part of the program. And let's start with the visual. In the Moscow studio, the editor -in -chief of the site for girls Wonderzine Julia Taratuta and artist Sasha Frolova.
Sasha, your image is such an alternative Miss of the world, that is, it is a beauty on the contrary or what? Maybe through this you can understand some future model of a modern woman.
Alexandra Frolova : I fantasize about the female image of the future and try to collect different female images. My image with whom I go on stage, which is present in my exhibition projects, is such a collective image. This is the avant-garde of the 20s, and retro-animation of the 30s-40s, and futurism of the 60s, and the brightness and plasticity of the 90s. I work with latex.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Maybe this story is universal? There are no samples, some specific ideals. Today, a girl, a woman can borrow different forms from different times.
Julia Taratuta : Yes, a girl can choose what to borrow.
Tamara Lyalenkova : And everything will be modern?
Julia Taratuta : No, this is the main postulate in relation to life, to himself and to his own image. You do what you want, and not what you are forced to. In a sense, this is a story about freedom. This is, in a sense, the difference between a modern look at the so -called image of a woman, the image of a person, and a little of the past.
Tamara Lyalenkova : But you have to offer some visual models. How do you choose? How do you understand what will be popular, what is in demand? Or is it some personal preferences, maybe editorial?
Julia Taratuta : We follow fashion. Fashion is a public thing. It arises from public air. It reflects what is happening in the world - the aggressiveness of the dispute, and anxiety, and the struggle for rights, and the desire to ensure that the rights of different people are taken into account, so that your right to identity is taken into account. Modern fashion takes into account very hard. If you look at the modern "couture", he is trying to consider it. Because of this, male and female collections are so mixed. Because of this, it is so difficult to understand whose role this is today. And, in general, the very concept of the role goes into the background and is simply neutralized, if not the most important. But absolutely exactly what the site does not offer is a model for following. He does not offer an example to follow. This is his ideological essence.
Tamara Lyalenkova : It turns out that using such a traditional female image, you can create an image of the future. Or not? There was such a story that one of the journalists called you, Sasha, the superfluous of the future. What was invested in this - your creativity or your visual image?
Alexandra Frolova : I am an alternative Miss of the world, which I became two years ago in London. This competition is devoted to alternative beauty and view of beauty. Even men, artists, transvestites, some crazy characters participate there. And the task of the competition is to show three mini -perfoman and present your image. And the best, most integral image is selected. There is a very interesting jury. This competition has existed since the mid-70s. I am now an expert of alternative beauty. Not all people perceive her adequately. Actually, when I speak in Russia, the reaction to me abroad is very sharply different, for example in Europe, and for example, in Vladivostok or in Cheboksary.
Tamara Lyalenkova : And how does the audience react?
Alexandra Frolova : They do not understand at all. They perceive only some sexual component of this image and do not understand everything else.
Tamara Lyalenkova : And what to do? Somehow to explain or invent some other history of the performance for this audience?
Alexandra Frolova : It seems to me that such publications as Wonderzine are needed. It is necessary to raise and educate the level of visual culture so that people see more, to explain to them what it is, where is it and why. And so it turns out a very one -sided perception.
Tamara Lyalenkova : It seems to me that an understanding of art and beauty as such is quite complicated for the public, especially in the regions. But this is the specificity, including different states. We talked with the teacher of the modeling agency. She is the model and photographer Olga Mordach . She told how the types of beauty, popular in a particular country, change.
Olga Mordach : I had a path that pursues many models. I absolutely did not think about it. I just walked down the street. The agent pulled me by the hand, saying: "You come to us." Naturally, at the age of 16 I had no idea what it was, I didn’t even think about it. I had anything on my mind, except for this. She said: "Come, we will try you." And after some time, I came, and everything spun. Not all depends on growth, on external data. There are different types of models.
It is very difficult to surprise Europe. In Europe, of course, they love tall girls, slender, beautiful, having either classic beauty, or such a strange beauty, but clinging, which no one has the other. This distinguishes a high -level model. You need to surprise with your unusual beauty or surprise with your impeccable beauty.
Now, it seems to me, more strange frivolous models have come into fashion and such non -standard beauty - big ears, big teeth and all that clinging, but it should be on the verge of something super -beautiful and super -string. The most important thing is that I try to inspire the girls, that I need to love myself and accept as they are. Because all people are different. We are all beautiful, we are all cool in our own way.
Julia Taratuta : It was easy for us to refuse such a way to think that there is a certain unquestioning sample that needs to be followed. Wonderzine magazine has published a project today about the right to gray hair. He is about women who chose to wear gray hair as an image of themselves.
Alexandra Frolova : Yes, now sometimes young girls dye their hair in a gray -haired ash.
Julia Taratuta : Exactly. But we are not talking about a fashionable trend, but this is exclusively about accepting oneself, and about choosing. You can dye your hair, but you can not color. And it is completely surprising how people in a sense of different generations and different worldviews in this sense collided. Because it was quite difficult to move away from this recognition of the fact that beauty as such does not exist, unquestioning beauty.
Tamara Lyalenkova : It seems to me that this is such a sentence in its own way.
Julia Taratuta : It also happens with art, because the boundaries of what you can call beautiful and ugly, art and not art blurry. Now contemporary art, if it is beautiful, it is condemned and not accepted in the world of contemporary art, saying that contemporary art should not be beautiful, otherwise it is design, it is some kind of visuality. I do not agree with this. I believe that still beauty should be present in art.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Sasha, you use a traditional female image.
Alexandra Frolova : I hyperbolize.
Tamara Lyalenkova : At the same time, the Genderists say that everything goes aside just androgenity, unisex. Is this such an artistic move or is it simply impossible?
Alexandra Frolov : Now in all the last shows that the future is behind feminism, for a woman. It seems to me that a woman is such a carrier and a source of energy of love. This is a very feeling creature. The future is precisely behind a certain approach to worldview, not technogenic, but based on feelings, emotions, energies.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Then you return us to the traditional female image, even somewhere by the beginning of the twentieth century, when they were small in fashion with large breasts. There was such a trend.
Alexandra Frolova : I'm talking about a certain image of a super -woman. I will exaggerate everything in this image - her beauty, and her femininity, and her sensuality.
Tamara Lyalenkova : It's like art. And we are still trying to look at the real world, although sometimes, and now it is quite often, it is all somehow interconnected and intersect. Life becomes colorful and quite free in this regard in the sense of clothing.
Julia Taratuta : The traditional image of a woman, her right to exist - are we discussing this?
Tamara Lyalenkova : We look at how much it continues to exist, how relevant it is now, this traditional image? Or does it transform into other forms, dresses in other clothes, but still remains the same? Survey of Focus groups - MGPI. Psychologists reflected on whether a woman should look good and how.
- It seems to me that society has become more accustomed to the fact that a woman puts on trousers, that she can lead a sports lifestyle, that she is already going to society in sportswear, in sneakers. This has already become more tolerant.
- The girl should be beautiful. It is created for beauty.
- Any woman should be well -groomed. I do not think that a man is pleased to see that the girl has dirty hair, groomed nails or dressed like a boy. I don't think it is pleasant for men.
- Each girl must decide for herself. If she likes to look beautiful, then she will look beautiful. If she likes groomed nails and dirty hair, then let her go.
- I like Angelina Jolie. She is beautiful. I would like to be like her. This is a woman who manages everything and always.
Tamara Lyalenkova : I think girls broadcast the overall picture of understanding life.
Julia Taratuta : Girls different things say.
Tamara Lyalenkova : It doesn't seem strange to you, is it normal?
Julia Taratuta : Strange - no. Does it seem strange to us why the majority of the population of Russia has such political views? No.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Do you bind it?
Julia Taratuta : This, in fact, is very important. Because the readers of our magazine, who are prone to a female liberal agenda, not everyone can throw the bridge to the common liberal agenda. When you see a violation of liberal values in principle, women 'rights are only a private embodiment of this topic. If a liberal policy is killed in your country, this is due to the topic of domestic violence in a sense, in a very global one. If people do not feel borders, if they do not understand the principles of freedom, criminal things occur here and here on different scale.
Alexandra Frolov : If they accept violence at home, then they accept violence on a state scale.
Julia Taratuta : Of course, this is connected.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Still, they have a look at the male side. This, it seems to me, is a very important indicative thing. Even your site, which positions itself as a site for girls, focuses on a female audience that thinks about the family.
Julia Taratuta : No. You do not quite correctly understand how it works.
Tamara Lyalenkova : In men's magazines, it is still not the case.
Julia Taratuta : This is not entirely fair.
Tamara Lyalenkova : There is a partner, and here is a family.
Julia Taratuta : This is a completely unfair attitude to the ideology of this magazine. No one puts the family at the head. Moreover, Wonderzine is one of the few female magazines who raises the topic of the optional family position, the position of the opportunity to have or not have a child, which, in principle, even criminal even in modern Russia.
Alexandra Frolova : Yes, because the family position is imposed quite actively and aggressively to society.
Julia Taratuta : There is no antipandy. No one advocates for not creating a family, for not the birth of children. The right of a person is to choose a husband, child, partner, partner. There is absolutely no installation on a family in our magazine.
Tamara Lyalenkova : But the family theme is present, right?
Julia Taratuta : present. This is the problem of partners' relations, the problems that couples face if they traditionally do not fit into some cells and stereotypical understanding. Women get married, get married. They have husbands, wives. Different people find themselves in a circle. In this sense, we illuminate everything that can enter the agenda of a person who turns out to be our heroine.
Alexandra Frolova : Now the individuality is becoming fashionable. And the beauty is individual, whatever it is, even if you are all in tattoos, all in spots. It can also be beautiful.
Julia Taratuta : This fashion trend arose as an expression of an alternative.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Are there any trends that have changed over the last, relatively speaking, five years? Does something change in this female interest?
Julia Taratuta : Everything has changed, starting from the first point that there is no more ideal of beauty. We agreed on this. There is a story about a fashionable agenda. It is quite obvious that the glossy fashion industry, in a sense, also reacts to some kind of social progress. And here is a story about self -identification, about a difference - absolutely the entire commercial industry of the so -called beauty to this reacts in such a socially active way. You can look at a million covers that the Internet is full of now. Everyone is trying to be socially active in this matter. The course itself, the very step of the gloss, which is used to handling exclusively with stereotypical beauty, with the unconditional model, the very fact that he began to see ways, talk about socially important things that women should live comfortably, should have the right to this harmony without whistles afterwards - this is such a handsome sign of time.
Tamara Lyalenkova : But there are some things that I am nomaded from the magazine to the magazine, starting from the time of the "worker" and "peasant".
Julia Taratuta : Where? In glossy magazines?
Tamara Lyalenkova : In women's magazines. What are these rubrics?
Julia Taratuta : All women's magazines write about style, about beauty, about industry, about cosmetics. In recent years, everyone wrote about a healthy lifestyle. Now the fashion has left a little. But at the same time, those people who love sports continue to engage in some kind of moderate quantities and did not abandon the hall.
It seems to me that the section “Relations”, the advice of a psychologist, the relationship in a couple, because the “couple” began to mean a little more than used to it, which was used to it.
Alexandra Frolova : It is clear that they all always consist of headings and talk about how to achieve an ideal image that is on the cover, roughly speaking.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Yes, and female happiness.
Alexandra Frolova : And how to teach his beauty as better as possible, to achieve it.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Now let's try to understand what social role awaits girls in the near future. In the Moscow studio, sociologist Irina Tartakovskaya and deputy chairman of the Moscow "Youth Apple" Maria Efimova .
Irina, it seems to me, young girls today have the experience of freedom, are more likely equal with men. In any case, the way of life is such that this is brought up in them. On the other hand, there is a tendency to return to patriarchal, conservative. Or is it still the current generation inherits some stereotypes from grandmothers? Is there a dissonance here - what is happening in the world, and what we have in Russia now?
Irina Tartakovskaya : This conservative coup, which is now written about, is a political phenomenon. It is promoted by politicians, it is promoted by public figures, some social circles associated with religious groups, for example. But it cannot be said that this is what reflects the trends of changes in the real behavior of people. These things exist completely independently from each other. As far as I understand, what change in the conservative side in the practices of people, how they marry, get divorced, share home duties, etc., this is not. We can say that this turn is more likely proclaimed as something desired than is actually happening. The gap is huge.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Nevertheless, maybe then some stereotypes are preserved, but not from Soviet times. Soviet women were the most free woman in the world after 1917. True, a double burden was laid on it, but, nevertheless, she got the opportunity to realize.
Masha, in order to engage in politics, you must probably be a free person in some of his views, maybe look more towards feminism. It is difficult to imagine a girl who is very active in such a girl's life and at the same time thinks about how to change the world. Your specific case.
Maria Efimova : I probably have a fairly funny case. Since childhood, I called myself a feminist. I grew up in a small city in the Vladimir region, where this word was considered either a curse, or I thought that it was a style in clothes. Society and my teachers tried to re -educate me. I really think that men and women are equal in their rights and capabilities. It is very difficult to imagine that someone may disagree with this. Unfortunately, Russia has a very big problem in this regard, in terms of gender equality.
Tamara Lyalenkova : It seems to me that there is such a dissonance inner in the head, including girls. On the one hand, it is good if a woman took place, earns. She is successful. What to do in this situation?
No?
All the easier she leaves marriage if something does not suit her in this marriage. It is normal that the nanny is engaged in children. Such a life, such a job.
It looks like the truth?
This is what civil society we have with all its problems, pressure, etc., such a female movement. It is very difficult.
This applies to both women and to all other categories of the population.
