Russian sailors freed from captivity in Nigeria returned to the Crimea

Russian sailors, residents of Sevastopol, freed from captivity of pirates in Nigeria, arrived in Simferopol, reports TASS with reference to the Commissioner for Human Rights in Sevastopol Pavel Butsay.

“They flew to the Airport of Simferopol,” the Ombudsman said and added that the relatives of the sailors are already notified of their release. Earlier, Butsai reported that during the negotiations it was possible to agree with the pirates about the redemption, but did not specify the amount.

In the territorial waters of Nigeria on February 5, as a result of a robbery attack on a cargo ship, BBC Caribbean, owned by the German company Brze Shiffart, seven Russian citizens and one citizen of Ukraine were captured by pirates. The robbers did not take the ship, since it followed from the destination without cargo.

Three sailors escaped captivity and returned home about two weeks ago.
