The WikiLeaks website has begun publishing secret materials of the US Central Intelligence Directorate. The project, called Vault 7, will be the largest leakage of confidential intelligence data, the WikiLeaks website said.

The first series of publications called Year Zero contains more than 8.7 thousand documents that disclose, according to WikiLeaks, hacker techniques to which the CIA resorted to. These documents are discussed, in particular, about viruses for computers and smartphones with Windows, Android, iOS, OSX and Linux operating systems. The CIA refused to give comments on the new block of documents published on the WikiLeaks website.

Senator John McCain suggested that Wikileaks is connected with Russia. "I can’t say this, but it is obvious that Wikileaks had a connection with Russia," the Senator told the Washington Examiner. At the same time, he noted that there is no evidence of these connections.

McCain emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen cybersecurity, as hackers "demonstrated the ability to" get to "the most important secret materials." According to the senator, if the hackers "were able to hack the CIA," then they "can penetrate to anyone."

On October 8, in the midst of the US presidential election campaign, Wikileaks published part of the correspondence of the head of the election headquarters of the Democratic Party, John Podesta. The released package contained 2060 emails and 170 files attached to them.

More than half of the materials were dedicated to the nuclear energy and Uranium One, which, through the affiliated persons, belongs to the Russian State Corporation Rosatom. According to the then former candidate from the Republicans, Donald Trump, the company was ruled by Tony Podest, brother of John Podesta. Trump also argued that his competitor from the Democrats Hilary Clinton, when he was by the US Secretary of State, handed over to Uranium One 20 percent of the American uranium. In early August, it was reported that Clinton received donations from shareholders of Uranium One .

Clinton herself has repeatedly stated that Russia, which supports Trump, is behind Wikileak's publications. The US Vice-President Joe Biden also made accusations against Moscow, promising to "give a signal to the Russian president.

Vladimir Putin, commenting on this statement, said that the structures of the US administration "are peeping and eavesdropping on everyone." Such actions of Washington "are well known to everyone, for a long time this is no secret." “You can expect anything from our American friends,” the Russian president noted.

On October 21, Wikileaks began publishing the correspondence of the departing US President Barack Obama. Electronic messages were sent "from the secret mail" of the president, the authors of the publication claimed. The first part of the documents posted included seven letters, which Obama exchanged with the lodge in the fall of 2008. The correspondence discusses the possible presidency of Obama and the likelihood of his participation in the G20 summit in the event of his victory in the elections.
