Mutko was not allowed to the election to the FIFA Council

Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko will not be able to run for the FIFA Council, since he did not go through a check for compliance with the requirements of this football organization. It is reported by Associated Press, referring to its own sources.

The interlocutors of the agency emphasized that they do not have the right to disclose data on the nature of the inspections. At the same time, according to them, Mutko’s inconsistency with the requirements for the candidate concerns the FIFA rule on state non -interference in football, and not an investigation of a doping scandal with the participation of Russian athletes. Mutko cannot be a member of the FIFA Sovet, since he is the deputy chairman of the Russian government, sources explained.

Mutko since 2009 has been part of the FIFA Executive Committee. The official was one of five candidates who claimed four places allocated to Europeans in the FIFA Council. The rest of the applicants are Hungarian Sandor Chani, Icelander Gayr Torstinson, former player of Milan, Chernogorets, Acts Savichevich and Kostakis Kutsokumnis.

Mutko can appeal this decision in a sports arbitration court in Lausanne.

The official himself told TASS that he would not affect the election of the FIFA Council on holding the 2018 World Cup.

"As for our position, preparations for the Xhempionate of the world, the committee’s decision has nothing to do with it," Mutko said.

Elections to the FIFA Council from Europe will be held on April 5 at the Congress of the Union of European Football Associations in Helsinki. The world championship matches will be held from June 14 to July 15, 2018 in 11 cities of Russia.
