Turkish police blocked the diplomatic mission of the Netherlands in Ankara and Istanbul

The police blocked the entrances and exits to the Netherlands Embassy in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul "for security reasons", RIA Novosti reports with reference to a source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey. This decision was made against the backdrop of a scandal arising from the Netherlands authorities banned the boarding of the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry of Mevlut Chavushoglu in Rotterdam.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry also declared "undesirable" return to the country on the vacation of the Netherlands Ambassador. According to the Turkish authorities, a diplomat should live in a native country for a while.

Chavushoglu was supposed to make a speech on a rally in Rotterdam on March 11, dedicated to changes in the Turkish Constitution. It would be addressed to representatives of the Turkish diaspora, the support of which President Recep Erdogan needs. However, the Netherlands authorities said that such an event could pose a threat to public security, and therefore banned its implementation.

Erdogan in response to this stated that Ankara would give the Netherlands a tough answer. “Let's see how after that your planes will land in Turkey. Of course, I mean the diplomatic sphere, not trips of ordinary citizens. This is a separate issue that requires consideration,” the head of state emphasized.

The Turkish leader also stated that the authorities of the Netherlands were “as cowardly”, and the measures against the officials of Ankara Erdogan christened “the remnants of Nazism and fascism” .

Prime Minister Netherlands Mark Rutte was indignant at the words of the President of Turkey. “I understand they got angry, but this, of course, is beyond the scope,” Rutte said, calling Erdogan’s remark “crazy” . He also added that he does not consider it right when Turkish ministers conduct a campaign in the Netherlands among the Dutch. At the same time, he announced the importance of maintaining good relations between countries.
