Lucidvox and Russian spirit

“Four girls playing psychedelic music with an admixture of kraut-clock”-this is the Moscow group Lucidvox, performing not a girl’s loud and gloomy songs that “my secret is with an icy roll / is calling you with fire.” Lucidvox has recently released a mini-album “Smoke”, on which they did not change their love for the rapid rhythm, booming guitars, vocal campaigns and slavic-language symbols, and gather at the Tallinn Music Week 2017 International Musical Forum, where they will become one of the groups representing Russia. We set the group participants - Alina (vocals), Galle (guitar), Nadia (drums) and Ana (BAS) - several gender issues, but not only them.

- What do you feel when you are called a "girlish group"?

Galla: What is wrong? We are really a group consisting of girls, and I think this affects music and lyrics. The main thing is not to be a group only for girls.

Alina: We call ourselves so, so we just feel like a group in which four girls play. Nothing unique :).

-Have you ever asked you to the male musicians? The decision to be All Female Band is fundamentally and unchanged?

Galla: Yes, they didn’t seem to be asked; It does not seem to be somehow consciously, but it happened initially, and now we are quite a whole team in which each in its place. It’s hard for me to imagine that I could feel free with someone else.

Nadia: I was called to play with someone more than once-for example, with Lenin Package , but I feel so uncomfortable with other people-it’s not a thing in the field, but that L UCIDVOX is like a home: I have fun, but I always want to return as soon as possible.

Alina: It seems to me that now it’s just difficult to imagine what a boy could play with us. Because, probably, there is some kind of understanding between us. In addition, indeed, we have long been like a family. It seems to me that it would be strange for the boy to play in the women's team, which has long developed. That is, rather, it would be more interested in him what it was to play with girls than what to be a single team following in a single vector. Although, maybe I'm wrong :).

-What should you know about the new mini-album "Smoke"? What new did you learn for yourself during his recording?

Galla: What should you know? Nothing, be impartial; All that we wanted to say, we, in general, played.

Nadia: probably it is worth knowing that we like him and we are satisfied with the result: after all the records I wanted to go outside, put on headphones and dissolve in his music, and not try to evaluate it all the time; This time I did it.

Alina: I found out that a duduk is a very difficult tool :). But seriously, we learned that in the work on the material it is not necessary to rush anywhere.

- You purposefully use Russian Melos, Russian texts and Slavic style in your music. Why are you doing this?

Galla: It is important for me that there is a “spirit” in everything, it is stored more in history, and the spirit of our culture is close to me. When you find yourself in a quiet, snowy forest or collect a summer berry in a fog, by a gloomy lake, at sunset-it can still be found there.

Nadia: Some ethnic was born by itself, this is partly due to the Yakut culture, which Anya brought to our group, and probably something gloomy, secret, uniting us all fascinating us all (now the music of Huun-Chuur-Tu has come to mind).

Alina: Due to Slavic style, many probably think that we are just about music for people in these T-shirts with wolves :). There is a certain stereotype in the perception of this symbolism. It seems to me that our music destroys him.

Lucidvox - "Do not go"

-Do you study the music that was made before you in an attempt to combine Russian roots and rock and roll? Do you have heroes in Russian rock?

Galla: It is difficult, to be honest, to remember something worthy in such a vein. For some reason, it usually sounds like music for those who walk in a T-shirt with a wolf and wears a wooden sword behind. The first thing that came to mind was the “civil defense”, in my opinion, in my opinion, such a terrible Russian mysticism really flashed, on the modern scene, this line of Shortparis now continues.

Nadia: I like Russian roots in Lovozero music and “quiet stones” , Glasha and I were inspired by Russian choirs (and not only Russians) and at the same time we listen to groups such as Goat , Flamingods (by the way, we play with them soon on tallinn Music Week , and this is very pleasant), Lightning Bolt , Ty Segall , Show M E T He B Ody . As a result, from all this, something of its own turns out.

- You are going to Talli N N Music Week to represent yourself as an international audience. What do you think, your strengths? What can attract in your music?

Nadia: the strength of it is probably - we are sure that we are doing now, we have our own style, image and even our nature of performances, that is, people who come to us, I hope they want to see what they will not see from other groups and other concerts. Maybe this is what is called identity.

Alina: Power, probably, in a sincere desire to share music with others, in the desire to immerse others in a really original space.

- What groups of those that represent Russia on TMW are familiar and interesting to you?

Nadia: Many participants are familiar to us, I, of course, are mostly ill for “thank you,” I recently went with them to the Slovenian festival of Ment , they were one of the few groups that forced people to dance without thinking about anything, from beginning to end. And I am interesting to me the most group of ShortParis , and not only among the domestic participants in TMW , but in general on our stage.

Alina: I am not even more interested in the groups themselves, but how Russian performers will perceive at the festival. This is the first time I will go to a foreign music festival. And it is very interesting how these groups will sound in a slightly different context.

- How is the public "Party" associated with the Lucidvox group? Are you all busy in his "production"? How does it help your group in promoting your music?

Galla: In general, it is not connected in any way, not everyone is busy, and does not help in advance. We try not to be just a “public”, calling it a web jean, a musical publication about modern Russian music, to develop interest and promote the whole scene that, unfortunately, we have a very underground.

Nadia: “Party” is our little brainchild with Glasha, the second cozy house besides Lucidvox , and I am pleased to see that even 15 thousand people, but have found their own corner in it.

-Do you think it is possible to engage in a rock band and a family at the same time? What will you do if at some point the problem of choice is at some point-music or husband and children?

Galla: I think that in history there are many examples when the musicians had a family, and that nothing is impossible. Is this what you need to choose? Probably not easy, but still you can remain yourself, doing what you love, and at the same time be a mother.

Alina: We are one family! So the appearance of children will only make our family more.
