The mayor's office of Stavropol refused to approve the LGBT action, calling it illegal. This is stated in the notice of the city administration.
According to the city administration, the action violates the law "On the protection of children from information that is harmful to their health and development."
Gay parades were to be held in a number of cities in the South of Russia, including Nalchik and Cherkessk, as part of an all-Russian LGBT action. In Stavropol, the procession was to take place on March 22. The organizers expected that up to 300 people would come to the action in each city, but not a single parade was held.
The action was initiated by the well-known LGBT activist Vladimir Klimov. on his Facebook page After the refusal, one of the organizers of the action, Nikolai Alekseev, wrote that the applicants intended to challenge the decisions of the city administration in court.
