EU authorities threatened Facebook, Google and Twitter fines

The EU authorities asked Facebook, Twitter and Google to change the conditions for using social networks within a month. It is reported by Reuters with reference to an anonymous source familiar with the situation.

Companies were sent letters with warnings. According to the interlocutor of the agency, the EU authorities demanded to allow users of social networks to appeal to the courts in their countries. Now customers can sue companies only in California.

Organizations for consumer protection in the European Union also put forward the requirements to marry sponsorship materials and allow users to terminate agreements with social networks. In addition, the question raised whether social networks have the right to filter the content created by users. The EU authorities also asked the company to more intensively fight fraud on their sites.

Reuters notes that in case of refusal of American corporations, they are facing fines.

In April 2016, the European Commission began an antitrust investigation against Google. The regulator suspects that the company abuses the dominant position in the Internet.
