1992 Adoption of the new constitution of South Africa

25 years ago, on March 18, 1992, the white population of South Africa approved a new constitution by a two-thirds majority in a referendum that would equalize the rights of whites and blacks in the country. The constitution came into force only on April 27, 1994. Since then, South Africa has become a state of multiracial democracy.
