The third criminal case in March for extremism on social networks has been opened in Kuban

In the Krasnodar Territory in March, this is the third known case of a criminal case being initiated for publications on social networks. Since law enforcement agencies do not disclose all the circumstances of the cases, it is difficult to say how lawful the actions of the special services are.

This time, a criminal case was opened against a 22-year-old resident of Krasnodar. The young man is accused of posting extremist materials on the Internet.

The investigative department for the Prikubansky district of the city of Krasnodar of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case under the first “extremist” part of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity on the basis of nationality). The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a period of two to five years.

As reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Krasnodar Territory, the 22-year-old guy is accused of using a tablet and posting audio recordings of extremist content on his page on one of the social networks during the period from October 2014 to November 2015.

“These actions were committed publicly and were open in nature, since they were available to a large circle of people. According to the conclusions of the linguistic examination, the published material contained statements that contributed to the incitement of hatred and enmity on the basis of nationality, race and attitude to religion. The fact of placement was discovered by operational employees of the FSB department in the region,” the department reported.

The criminal investigation is currently ongoing.

Let us remind you that on March 10 it became known that an 18-year-old resident of Krasnodar became a defendant in a criminal case for posts on the Internet. A few days later, another criminal case was opened for extremism on social networks against a 25-year-old resident of Gelendzhik. In both cases, it is unknown what exactly the young people published on their social media pages.

It is worth noting that despite the fact that Article 29 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation guarantees every Russian citizen freedom of thought and speech, recently any Internet user in Russia may face persecution for expressing his thoughts.

Sometimes a like or repost is enough to initiate a criminal case on extremism.
